1. What we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: your email address and display name when you sign up
- Trip and pin data: location coordinates, place names, notes, photos, and voice transcripts you add
- Device location: only when you actively use the map or add a pin — never in the background
- Usage data: basic logs (page visits, errors) to keep the Service running reliably
2. How we use your information
- Provide and operate the Service (storing your trips, serving your maps)
- Generate AI-powered place recommendations based on your saved pins
- Transcribe voice notes you record in the app
- Send transactional emails (e.g. password reset) — no marketing emails unless you opt in
- Diagnose errors and improve reliability
3. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with the following service providers solely to operate the Service:
- Google Cloud (Firebase / Firestore / Cloud Storage): stores your account, trips, and media files
- Google Maps Platform: renders maps and resolves place addresses
- Google Analytics (GA4): receives anonymized usage events (page views, session data); no personal identifiers are sent
- OpenAI: processes text for AI recommendations and voice transcription; no personal identifiers are sent
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of users or the public.
4. Data storage and security
Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. We use HTTPS for all data in transit and rely on Firebase security rules to ensure users can only access their own data. Photos are stored in private Google Cloud Storage buckets with per-request signed URLs.
5. Your choices
- Access and correction: you can view and edit all your data in the app at any time
- Deletion: deleting your account removes all your trips, pins, and media within 30 days
- Location: you can deny location permission in your browser or device settings; core features still work without it
- Export: contact us at hello@remembermap.com to request a copy of your data
6. Cookies and tracking
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymized usage data — such as page views and session counts — to understand how the Service is used. Google Analytics may set cookies in your browser; you can opt out via Google's opt-out browser add-on.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. We will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
